Dot

July 18, 2019

“We know it by a dozen names, this tiny spot that Jung calls ‘the symbol of a mysterious creative center in nature’. It is referred to as dot, point, jot, tittle, monad, bindu and even mustard seed. In purely formal terms, it is the smallest visible mark. It has position but no extension in space. As well as small size, dot can imply short duration and intense focus.”

“As the smallest, it is the first, the beginning point. It can be seen as an image of infinity, ‘of the completely formless principle from which all beings and all matter originated’, which we can only represent in concrete terms as a visual pattern, as a dot. But it can also mean the very first material incarnation of such formlessness, the starting point from which all things arise.”
